ELKANN: JUVENTUS ARE IN A REBUILDING PHASE
John Elkann spoke openly about the current situation at Juventus and the direction the club wants to take after the major changes made over the summer.
Elkann talked to Sky Sport Italia after the first team's traditional match against Juventus Next Gen at the Allianz Stadium. The game ended early due to the traditional pitch invasion by the fans, with the first team leading 2-0.
His main message was clear: Juventus are between two cycles and are currently laying the foundations for a new era of success.
"We must start winning again"
Rebuilding, however, does not mean Juventus want to lower their ambitions.
Elkann stressed that winning is part of the club's identity and that the goal remains achieving big results both in Italy and on the European stage.
In Elkann's view, it is precisely victories that pave the way to ever greater results. That is why it will be very important for Juventus to stay competitive in every competition they take part in this coming season. At the same time he admitted the club is in a period of construction, but stressed that within Juventus there is a clear determination to bring the team back to the very top.
Juventus searching for their identity again
With the arrival of Giovanni Carnevali the club gained a man with vast experience in Italian football, and Elkann believes his profile fits the direction Juventus want to take.
"Giovanni is a great professional who knows Italian football very well. His abilities, energy and ambition to bring Juventus back where they belong fully match our identity."
Elkann also spoke about Luciano Spalletti.
During the match against the Next Gen side he sat next to the Juventus coach on the bench, which allowed him to see up close how Spalletti thinks during a game.
"We have a very strong relationship. I did not want to miss the chance to watch a match from the bench for the first time and to be next to him. It was very interesting to hear his comments and the way he reads the game."
A new Juventus cycle begins
The club makes no secret of being in a transitional period. The changes in the sporting department, the arrival of Carnevali and the work on rebuilding the squad are all part of the effort to lay the foundations for the next winning cycle.
"Juventus' ambition is always to win, in Italy and in Europe. We must start winning again, because victories lead to even greater successes."
