Juventus defeated Atalanta 2-0 at the Allianz Stadium, ending their run of two consecutive Serie A matches without a win in the best possible way. The goals for the Bianconeri were scored by Francisco Conceição in the 28th minute and Gleison Bremer in the 77th minute. Luciano Spalletti's team played with discipline, patience and enough efficiency to punish their opponents' weaknesses. Juventus took the lead in the first half before Bremer sealed the victory after the break, ending a very unpleasant run against the Bergamo side.
JUVENTUS END EIGHT-YEAR WAIT
The victory carries special significance because Juventus had not beaten Atalanta in Serie A in Turin since March 14, 2018, when Gonzalo Higuaín and Blaise Matuidi secured an identical 2-0 victory. Atalanta had remained unbeaten in eight consecutive league away games against Juventus since then, recording two wins and six draws. Spalletti's side finally ended that run and brought three points back to the black-and-white side.
CONCEIÇÃO BREAKS THROUGH ATALANTA'S DEFENCE
Juventus tried from the start to find space behind the visitors' defence, while Atalanta enjoyed spells of longer possession but lacked enough threat in front of Guglielmo Vicario's goal.
The first major change on the scoreboard came in the 28th minute.
Zeki Çelik sent a low cut-back from the left towards the centre of the penalty area, where Conceição reacted first time. The Portuguese winger calmly finished with his left foot to beat Marco Carnesecchi and give Juventus a 1-0 lead. It was Conceição's first Serie A goal since March 1, when he found the net against Roma at the Olimpico.
LUKUMI DENIES THE VISITORS' BIGGEST THREAT
Atalanta's best opportunity of the first half came in the 24th minute. The ball reached Nikola Krstović, who was ready to threaten Vicario with a volley, but John Lucumí made a timely diagonal intervention to clear the danger. The visitors had more possession, but lacked sharpness in the final third. Juventus closed down the approaches to their penalty area and went into the break with a narrow but deserved lead.
BREMER SEALS THE VICTORY AFTER A CORNER
Juventus maintained their organisation in the second half and waited for the moment that would finally put the game beyond doubt. That moment arrived in the 77th minute following a corner.
Bremer showed his strength and excellent positional awareness inside the penalty area, reached the ball and found the back of Atalanta's net to make it 2-0. The Bianconeri captain capped a solid performance with another important goal and removed the final doubt over the winner.
SOLID DEFENCE KEEPS VICARIO'S GOAL CLEAN
Alongside the two goals scored, Juventus' defensive performance was a crucial part of the victory. Bremer, Lucumí and Pierre Kalulu controlled the centre of the defence, while Atalanta, despite enjoying possession, failed to create enough clear-cut chances.
Vicario finished the match with a clean sheet, while the Bianconeri showed a reaction after their league defeat to Sassuolo. Juventus had previously thrashed NEC 5-0 in the Europa League, and with a second consecutive victory, they confirmed their return to confidence.
A BETTER RESPONSE AHEAD OF THE INTERNATIONAL BREAK
The victory over Atalanta gives Juventus three important points, but also provides peace of mind ahead of the international break. After two league matches without a win, the Bianconeri responded on the pitch and defeated one of their most difficult opponents in recent years.
Even more importantly, Juventus ended the wait that had lasted in Turin since 2018. Atalanta's unbeaten run is over – Conceição and Bremer brought victory back to the black-and-white side.
