During the negotiations with Wolfsburg over the arrival of Kamil Grabara, Juventus used their contacts with the German club to enquire about Joakim Maehle as well, reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.
The Danish international is among the options Juventus are considering for the left-back position, after the Bianconeri intensified their search for a reinforcement there over the past 24 hours.
Maehle's contract situation makes this operation particularly interesting for Juventus. According to the Gazzetta, his deal with Wolfsburg is entering its final stretch, so the German club could be willing to discuss a transfer on more favourable financial terms.
There is another possibility too: if Maehle extends his stay at Wolfsburg for one more season, the option of him joining Juventus on loan could open up.
For now there is no agreement between the clubs. Juventus have asked about the player and the conditions of a potential deal, and the coming days should show whether the interest grows into concrete negotiations.
Who is Joakim Maehle?
Joakim Maehle is a Danish international born on 20 May 1997 in Roskilde. He stands 185 centimetres tall, and his main position is left-back, although thanks to his versatility he can also cover the right side of the pitch.
He began his senior career at Danish side Aalborg, from where he moved to Belgian club Genk. Strong performances in Belgium earned him a transfer to Atalanta, where he established himself in one of Europe's strongest leagues. After his spell in Bergamo, he continued his career in the Bundesliga with Wolfsburg. Maehle is known for his work rate, stamina and ability to contribute in both phases of play. His ability to play on either flank could be of particular interest to Juventus.
