Juventus continue to invest in young players, and the latest addition is set to arrive from Serbia.
According to Mozzart Sport, Juventus have agreed a deal to sign Mateja Lacmanovic from Red Star Belgrade. The 17-year-old centre-back, born in 2009, is regarded as one of the best players of his generation in the Red and Whites' academy.
Lacmanovic is expected to travel to Turin today, where he will undergo a medical before signing his contract with Juventus.
His profile is a particularly interesting detail for Juventus. Lacmanovic plays as a central defender and is predominantly left-footed, and it is precisely the fact that he is a left-sided centre-back that further caught the attention of the European clubs who had been tracking him.
He came through the entire Red Star youth system and this season was promoted from the under-17s to the under-19s. He has also made two appearances for Serbia's under-17 national team.
Red Star signed him to his first professional contract in April, which has allowed the club to earn a fee from his departure now.
A TRANSFER WORTH ALMOST A MILLION EUROS
According to the same source, Red Star could earn almost a million euros from the transfer, bonuses included.
No details have yet been released about the structure of the bonuses or the terms of the contract Lacmanovic is expected to sign with Juventus.
It also remains to be seen what the Bianconeri's immediate plan for his development will be. One logical option is integrating him into the Juventus youth system and the Primavera, but the club's concrete decision on his next step is not yet known.
