Perin bids Juventus an emotional farewell
Mattia Perin has closed a major chapter of his career.
The Italian goalkeeper said goodbye to Juventus with an emotional message posted on his Instagram profile, looking back on his years in Turin, the people he met, the difficult moments, the wins, the defeats and his bond with the black and white shirt.
Perin joined Juventus from Genoa in 2018 and accepted different roles between the posts over the years. He was often not the team's first-choice goalkeeper, but he remained an important member of the dressing room, always ready to take responsibility when given the chance.
He spoke about exactly that role in his farewell message.
"I learned that you can be important even when you are not always in the spotlight."
For Perin, the years at Juventus were clearly not just another stage of a football career.
"There are places you pass through. And there are places that, as you pass through them, change who you are. For me, Juventus was exactly that."
Juventus changed him as a man too
Perin devoted a special part of his farewell to how much the years in Turin shaped him away from the pitch.
He stressed that time at a club should not be measured solely in matches played, wins or trophies lifted.
"Today, when I look back, I realise that part of the man I have become was built precisely during these years."
Perin spoke about the people he met, waiting for his chance, the disappointments, the silence and the moments when he had to find the strength to keep going. He also highlighted one of the hardest things for any professional footballer: accepting the moments when you are not in the spotlight. For him, belonging to Juventus sometimes meant putting his own interests second.
A special message for the club staff and the fans
Perin did not forget the people who work at Juventus every day, far from the cameras and the public eye.
He thanked the club's staff and said that the significance of certain gestures, words and acts of kindness is often understood only when the time comes to part ways.
He devoted a large part of the message to the Juventus fans.
"To the fans I want to say one simple thing: I always tried to be worthy of the shirt I wore."
One of the important moments of his time in the black and white shirt was winning the Coppa Italia in the 2023/24 season, when Perin played a significant role on the road to the trophy.
"Juventus will stay in me forever"
Perin saved the most emotional part of the message for the very end.
"Maybe growing up also means this: having the courage to let go of something you love, without loving it any less because of it."
"I do not know what will remain of me in Juventus' history. But in me, Juventus will remain forever."
"Thank you, Juve. Fino alla fine."
