Alajbegovic as an important alternative to Yildiz
In Kerim Alajbegovic, Juventus have signed not only one of the most talented young players in Europe but also a footballer who could have a very concrete role in Luciano Spalletti's team as early as this season.
Corriere dello Sport describes Alajbegovic as a kind of "shadow of Kenan Yildiz", a player who can fill his position whenever Juventus' number ten needs a rest. The problem for the young Bosnian is precisely the competition. His natural position on the left wing currently belongs to Yildiz, while Spalletti, according to Corriere, has no plans for now to permanently move the Turk into a central role.
That is why Alajbegovic could initially get his chances more often from the bench while he adapts to the demands of Serie A.
"He lacks neither courage nor confidence"
The Italian paper particularly highlights the character of the 18-year-old Bosnia and Herzegovina international. Corriere uses the phrase "coraggio e faccia tosta", underlining his bravery, self-belief and lack of fear on the big stage. Alajbegovic has already shown through his appearances for Bosnia that age does not have to be an obstacle when he is given responsibility. Still, Juventus will not ask him to carry the team straight away. Turin has Yildiz, while Alajbegovic gets the space to develop gradually and adapt to Italian football.
Juventus get insurance for a long season
This is exactly where the significance of the transfer lies.
Yildiz will play an enormous number of matches over the season, and Corriere also points to the need for Juventus to manage his physical workload carefully.
Alajbegovic gives Spalletti the option to rest one of his most important players without completely changing the system.
Juventus paid 30 million euros for the young Bosnian, plus additional costs and possible bonuses, which says enough about how much the club believes in his potential.
Alajbegovic was not signed to replace Yildiz
What is especially interesting is that Corriere rejects the interpretation that Alajbegovic's arrival is preparation for selling Yildiz.
Despite rumours from England and the interest linked to Arsenal, the current message coming out of Juventus is that Yildiz remains central to the project. That is why Alajbegovic should for now be seen as an added strength, not as his successor.
Juventus have signed a player for the present, but above all an investment in the future. If his development continues as expected, Spalletti could have the luxury of two exceptionally talented young footballers on the same side of the pitch.
